We are noticing a spike in attempted fraud, the old favourite the fake email from the Boss to staff asking if they are available, can they take some action, which invariably leads to a request to pay something.
This is not a new one, but we have literally witnessed a new employee update their LinkedIn profile showing they are an employee and within 3 days receiving one of these fake emails from their supervisor. These emails are often very poor, with just the name correct and the actual email address is a random @gmail.com address, but if you are not looking it can easily slip through and a new employee is often keen to impress so will act quickly. Microsoft have started to alert people when an email originates from “outside their organisation” and to be careful, this is helpful as well, but you must be paying attention. Our motto is now be suspicious of everything, until verified.
